Q-Anon may not be the traditional idea of religion, but using scholarly definitions, it can be classified as one. David Chidester, Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Cape Town in South Africa, defines what makes a religion using three categories. The first is the Classification of Persons. Under this category, there are three subcategories: superhuman, fully human, and subhuman. These categories help separate people into religious orders. It separates the gods, from the religious people, from non-religious and satanic people. The second part of Chidester’s definition is Orientation in Space. This is again divided into three subcategories being, cosmic, geographic, and bodily. The third part of Chidester’s definition of religion is in Orientation in Time. Similar to space, the three subcategories are cosmic, bodily, and historical. These categories help define religion because of their relevance in widely known religions. Q-Anon responds to all of these subcategories with its own views, practices, and beliefs.
On this site, you will find more about what Q-Anon members believe, who they are, and where you may find them. You can also find how Q-Anon beliefs tie to each of these main categories and connected subcategories. Q-Anon may not be your typical thought of religion but it is a new religious movement that has an impact on people’s day-to-day lives and American politics.
